Previously, the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton had been planned to be filmed in a 3D technology, but later it was cancelled.

As reported by The Telegraph on February 9, 2011, “Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding will not be filmed in 3D because of the space needed for the format’s cameras and its relatively small audience”.

Further, it also reported that there are a number of reasons for the cancellation, most notably the additional camera footprint in the Abbey, the relatively small audience for 3D, and the anxiety to not be distracted away from negotiating and facilitating the optimal 2D radio, photographic and online coverage of the day. Although the plan to film the wedding ceremony of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 3D was cancelled, it’s still possible to watch the event that will be held at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011 live on YouTube.

The Telegraph on April 19, 2011 reported that the royal wedding will be broadcast live on YouTube after Prince William and Kate Middleton insisted they wanted their marriage to be the world’s most interactive public event.

Not just that, St James’s Palace will also use another popular social media namely Twitter and Facebook to host a dedicated social network giving the public constant updates and a chance to provide feedback.

A spokesman for St James’s Palace said : “We wanted people to be able to interact with the royal wedding as they watch it. Prince William and Catherine Middleton are like any other people their age in respect of social media. They are Facebook users and YouTube users .. and their intention has always been that their wedding should be accessible to everyone.” Read more from The Telegraph
