The list of 2016 Indonesians 150 RICHEST

GlobeAsia magazine, one of Indonesia famous business magazine in its June 2016 edition has published the list of 150 Richest Indonesians.

Michael Bambang Hartono (Oei Hwie Siang) 76 years old and his brother Robert Budi Hartono (Oei Hwie Tjhong) 75 years old, sons of the founder of Djarum Group Oei Wie Gwan who passed away in 1963, ranked on top by GlobeAsia with the estimated wealth of $14.8 billion in 2016 ($15 billion in 2015).

Ranked in the second place is Anthoni Salim (Liem Hong Sien) 67 years old, son of one of Indonesia biggest tycoon Sudono Salim, the owner of Salim Group with the estimated wealth of $11.0 billion in 2016 ($10.55 billion in 2015).

At the third place is Eka Tjipta Widjaja, 93 years old, the owner of Sinar Mas Group and also the founder of Eka Tjipta Foundation, with the estimated wealth of $10.5 billion in 2016 ($12.6 billion in 2015).

Bye Windows Live Writer, Welcome Open Live Writer

On December 11, 2015 through the Blogger Help Forum, Google has announced that Blogger users will no longer be able to publish their blog posts using Windows Live Writer (WLW). For WLW user, if they still want to be able to keep using it to post on Blogger, they need to migrate to Open Live Writer (OLW), an open source version of Windows Live Writer.

OLW is part of the .NET Foundation managed by an independent group of volunteers within Microsoft. It is based on WLW code and it will run side-by-side with the existing WLW installation.

Open Live Writer is like Word for your blog. Open Live Writer is a powerful, lightweight blog editor that allows you to create blog posts, add photos and videos then publish to your website. You can also compose blogs posts offline and then publish on your return. Open Live Writer works with many popular blog service providers such as WordPress, Blogger, TypePad, Moveable Type, DasBlog and many more (openlivewriter.org).

So, if you currently using Windows Live Writer as your blog editor and when you try to get into your Blogger account it keeps returning the error message “Blogger returned the following error : NotFound: NotFound”, it surely the time to migrate to Open Live Writer.

Now you can chat on Twitter with the characters longer than 140 characters

On Wednesday, August 12, 2015, Twitter’s Product Manager Sachin Agarwal announced in Twitter’s blog that the most used micro blogging app Twitter has decided to remove the 140-character limitation from Direct Messages.

“If you’ve checked your Direct Messages today, you may have noticed that something’s missing : the limitation of 140 characters. You can now chat on (and on) in a single Direct Message, and likely still have some characters left over” wrote Sachin Agarwal in Twitter’s blog.

For Twitter’s user, this should be a great news because now they can chat on Twitter freely without worrying about the limitation of words they can type. But, please be noted that such change is currently only available for messaging through Direct Messages and not for tweets, which will continue to be 140 characters only.

“Today’s change is another big step towards making the private side of Twitter even more powerful and fun. You may be wondering that this means for the public side of Twitter. In a word, nothing. Tweets will continue to be the 140 characters they are today” said the product manager of Twitter further in the blog

After done removing the limitation of 140 characters from Direct Messages in Twitter itself, Twitter promised the further improvement by rolling out the change across Android and iOS apps, and even on third party apps such as TweetDeck.

We’ll begin rolling out this change today across our Android and iOS apps, on twitter.com, TweetDeck, and Twitter for Mac. It will continue to roll out worldwide over the next few weeks. If you can’t wait to try out longer Direct Messages, be sure you’re using the latest versions of our apps so you get the update right away.

So, when Twitter is going to break the 140-character limitation for tweeting in public side ? Let’s just wait for this big moment (HRD).

Thunderbird 38, now with more Great Features

I’ve used Mozilla Thunderbird for years as one of my favorite email client. Compared to Microsoft Office Outlook, the main reason why I choose Mozilla Thunderbird is because it has a portable version which available to be downloaded from PortableApps.com. So I can bring it everywhere I go. It’s really a handy email app for me.

If you’re a Thunderbird user and has updated to the latest version, you may find out that within the latest Thunderbird 38 version, it has been packaged with the calendaring extension of LIGHTNING (a thunderbird extension to organize your schedule and events in a calendar which is fully integrated with Thunderbird email. Using this add-on you can manage multiple calendars, create daily to do list, invite friends to events, and subscribe to public calendars).

As explained in Mozilla Support website, the integration of Lightning into Thunderbird will give a big advantage for previous Lightning users, because a compatible version of Lightning is always available with Thunderbird. It is also a great opportunity for Thunderbird users that have not been using Lightning as it becomes easier to process emails that contain invitations.

The integration of Lightning into Thunderbird of course does not mean that you must use Lightning. After updated to the latest 38 version, you will soon find out the existence of a notification bar at the bottom of the Thunderbird window. You may further free to choose to disable Lightning or keep it for good.

TOMATO is A Fruit or A Vegetable ?

Once my kid asked me, “Daddy, tomato is actually a fruit or a vegetable ? When I was at school I raised this question to my science teacher but she told me to go ask my Mommy at home. Then, I went asked mommy she told me to go ask Daddy, instead. So now Daddy, I’m asking you tomato is a fruit or a vegetable?”

Have you ever wondered this ? Is tomato a FRUIT or a VEGETABLE ?

Oxford Dictionaries says that the confusion about ‘fruit’ and ‘vegetable’ arises because of the differences in usage between scientists and cooks. Scientifically speaking, a tomato is definitely a fruit. True fruits are developed from the ovary in the base of the flower, and contain the seeds of the plant. As far as cooking is concerned, some things which are strictly fruits, such as tomatoes or bean pods, may be called ‘vegetables’ because they are used in savory rather than sweet cooking. So, the answer to the question is that a tomato is technically A FRUIT, but it’s used as A VEGETABLE in cooking.

A fascinating thing about the question if tomato is a fruit or a vegetable is that the Supreme Court of the United States actually had to decide what the tomato is.

In 1893, in Nix v.Hedden case, the U.S.Supreme Court states that, under U.S. customs regulations, the tomato should be classified as a vegetable rather than a fruit. The Court’s unanimous opinion held that the Tariff Act of 1883 used the ordinary meaning of the words “fruit” and “vegetable”, instead of the technical botanical meaning. The Tariff Act of March 3, 1883 required a tax to be paid on imported vegetables, but not fruit. The case was filed as an action by John Nix, John W. Nix, George W.Nix and Frank W.Nix against Edward L. Hedden, Collector of the Port of New York, to recover back duties paid under protest. Botanically, a tomato is a fruit because it is a seed-bearing structure growing from the flowering part of a plant.

FORBES just released the list of 100 Richest Tech Billionaires from Around the Globe.

As quoted from the website (www.Forbes.com), the list was done by the following methodology :

For the list, Forbes chose to exclude telecom and media in our definition of technology. We included people active in hardware, software, social media, online gambling, and high-tech manufacturing. We used stock prices at the close of business on Friday, July 31 to value publicly-traded fortunes.

At the top of the list, Bill Gates, currently the world’s richest man and co-founded Microsoft, the world’s largest PC software company, has been ranked number one among tech tycoons, with a net worth of $79.6 billion, originally from Microsoft. In February 2014 Bill Gates stepped down as Chairman of Microsoft and taking on a new post as technology advisor. Under his leadership, Microsoft became a giant in software industry and helped make PCs commonplace.

Following, ranked number two is Larry Ellison, Oracle Chairman and Chief Technology Officer with net worth of $50 billion. In 2014, he was crowned by Forbes as the third-wealthiest man in America and as the fifth-wealthiest person in the world. He stepped down as CEO of Oracle in September 2014, but remains the company’s chairman and chief technology officer.

Crowned at the third position of the list is Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon.com, an online merchant of books and later of a wide variety of products. Forbes pegs Bezos’ net worth at $47.8 billion with more than 90% of which lies in his 18% stake in Amazon. Bezos founded Amazon.com in 1994 after making a cross-country drive from New York to Seattle, writing up the Amazon business plan on the way. He initially set up the company in his garage. On August 5, 2013, Bezos announced his purchase of The Washington Post for $250 million in cash.

Firefox is blocking Flash (by default)

If you’re a Firefox user and recently you may feel that each time you open a website, the Flash-based content won’t play properly. This is because Firefox has, by default blocked Adobe Flash Player from running automatically in its browser. This policy has been taken due to the discovery of numerous critical security flaws.

Since Monday, July 13, 2015, all of the old versions of the Adobe Flash Player (until the latest version 18.0.0.203) have been blocked automatically in Firefox browser.

If your Firefox browser still use the 18.0.203 or the older version of the Flash Player, you may find the warning message displayed at the top of your Firefox browser telling you that “Firefox has prevented the outdated plugin “Adobe Flash” from running on …….”. You have the choice to continue blocking the Flash to run or avoid the blocking by clicking the “Continue Blocking” or “Allow” button placed at the far right of the message.

This issue will not happen to you if you already have the newer version of Adobe Flash Player, 18.0.0.209 installed in your Firefox browser. To get it, you’ll need to manually download the plugin from the Adobe Flash Player website.

P.S If you don’t want to include the Optional offering from Adobe to install the free McAfee Security Scan Plus utility, please uncheck the “Optional offer” menu in the middle section of the Adobe Flash Player installing page.

What to DO when you can not post your blog to blogger.com using Live Writer

Do you ever experience that you can not post your blog to blogger.com using Windows Live Writer ? It seems that Google has blocked your blogger account because every time you try to post your blog it always returned with an error message. Is it true that Google has blocked your blogger account ?

As the user of Windows Live Writer, I’ve experienced this difficulty before. And after googling to find the answer, finally I found the answer of the problem.

From support.google.com, it said that :

Google may block sign in attempts from some apps or devices that do not  use modern security standards. Since these apps and devices are easier to break into, blocking them helps keep your account safer.

Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include :

• The Mail app on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 6 or below
• The Mail app on your Windows phone preceding the 8.1 release
• Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird

Further, it said that :

TO help keep your account secure, we may block these less secure apps from accessing your account, and you’ll see a “Password Incorrect” error when trying to sign in. If this is the case, you have two options :

• Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures
• Go to “Allow less secure apps” from your Google Account Sign-in & security setting. The button to turning on or off the “Allow less secure apps” setting can be found in “Connected apps & sites” menu.

If you choose the second option by turning on the “Allow less secure apps” from your Google Account, then you’ll be able to post your blog to blogger.com again by using Windows Live Writer.

But, please be noted that if you do this, later you’ll get an email from Google warning you that :

YOU are no longer protected by modern security standards. If you made this change please be aware that it is now easier for an attacker to break into you account.

I think if you still want to use Live Writer as your blogging tool to post your blog to blogger.com you have no other choice but to accept the risk and go ahead (HRD).

WPS Office, the freeware Alternative for Microsoft Office. Now with File Roaming ability

Microsoft Office, is no doubt, one of the most popular office suite of desktop applications, servers and services for both Microsoft Windows and OS X Operating Systems. It also runs on various devices with its Office Mobile for Windows Phone, Android Phones and also for iPhone. While, the version of Office for iPad was launched in March 2014. A web-based version of MsOffice called Office Online is also available.

But, if you can not afford the price you have to pay to obtain the license, I think Kingsoft Office may become one of the best alternative for freeware office app.

Kingsoft Office, or now called WPS Office, is 100% free to use. PC World crowned it as the best Microsoft Office alternative (read the review in here). CNET also championed Kingsoft Office Free 2012 as one of the top Microsoft Office alternatives for Windows (read the review further in here). Based on its official website, this office suite already used by over 250 million Windows users worldwide. With its latest version of WPS Office 2014 (beta), it supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 as well. Other than Windows, it also available for another Operating Systems such as Linux, iOS and Android.

WPS Office is fully compatible with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. It supports DOC, XLS, PPT, TXT files (Read further in here).

In the recently-released new version of WPS Office 2014 (Version 9.1.0.4746), it already bundled with the new feature called File Roaming.

Why Opera Browser EXTENSIONS Suddenly Gone ?

Usually, I used Firefox as my favorite web browser to explore the internet. But, recently, I’ve tried Opera web browser for the browsing tasks.

(OPERA browser is available in several platforms i.e Computer, Mobile and also Tablet. It’s a free and light weighted alternative browser. Another version, Opera Mini is also worth a try).

While using Opera, I’ve noticed that each time I closed the browser and later activated it again, all of the EXTENSIONS (add-ons) already installed by me suddenly disappeared.

After experienced this issue several times, later I goggling to search for the solution. And finally found out that the problem was with CCleaner app I’ve always used to clean up all of the junks from my laptop before shut it down. When CCleaner cleaned out the internet history from my Opera browser, it’ll also wiped out all of the extensions from the browser. By un-checking the “Internet History” from Applications – Opera menu, the problem was solved. My installed extensions within the Opera browser never disappear again (HRD).

STICKIES (portable), a powerful alternative for Windows 7 Sticky Notes

I’m using the Ultimate edition of Windows 7 and I found out that it has the Sticky Notes feature which will be helpful when I’m going to scratch a note or just to make a reminder. But while using this feature, I’m quite disappointed because I can’t find any menu available to change the default font.

Then, I turned to PortableApps.com to find any alternative free app for Sticky Notes.  Within the Office category I found what I was looking for. Remembering Steve Jobs (1955 – 2011). You’ll be Missed

On October 5, 2011 (Wednesday), just one day after the launching of iPhone 4s, the co-founder of Apple Steve Jobs passed away. Apple and the world have lost one of the most innovative and visionary figure. During his life time, Steve Jobs had inspired lots of people with his attainments, his thought and his words.

Following are some of my favorites Steve Jobs words :

Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower

Recruiting is hard. It’s just finding the needles in the haystack. You can’t know enough in a one-hour interview. So, in the end, it’s ultimately based on your gut. How do I feel about this person? What are they like when they’re challenged? I ask everybody that : ‘Why are you here?’ The answers themselves are not what you’re looking for. It’s the meta-data.

That’s been one of my mantras – FOCUS and SIMPLICTY. Simple can be harder than complex. You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.

Why join the navy if you can be a pirate? It’s more fun to be a pirate than to join the navy.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it. They just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people.

Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It’s not about money. It’s about the people you have, how you’re led, and how much you get it.

Quality is more important than quantity. One home run is much better than two doubles

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I’m about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered  to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you’re going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

How Dirty is Your Desk ? Accountants and Lawyers are the owners of the dirtiest desks

A research conducted by Viking, a UK based supplier of office stationery (www.viking-direct.co.uk) as published by Telegraph.co.uk revealed out that lawyers, accountants and computer workers are the most unhygienic office workers in the country. While social workers are more likely to have mouldy food on their desks.

A study of desks by office supplies firm Viking in hundreds of offices across the country found poor levels of hygiene. Germs were found in almost two-thirds of computer keyboards, while some even had mould growing underneath. Phones and desks also had  germs, Viking found after analysing swabs sent in by hundreds of office workers (Telegraph.co.uk – 03 October 2011).

Although many of office desks are not germ free, most of office workers are not aware of the present of germs on their desks because actually sometimes they are invisible. According to the study, not more than 50 percent of workers who realize that their desks are not sterile.

Besides, the habit of having lunch at the working desks also influential to the healthiness and cleanliness of the office space. About 2 of 3 employees surveyed admitted that they are not always clean up their desks after eating lunch or having snack on it.

So, your desk may look clean, but who knows thousands of germs are already partying beneath.

Dr Lisa Ackerley (Viking hygiene expert) has several tips to help you keep your desk away from germs :

1. Clean your keyboard and desk regularly with an air duster to get into all of the tiny spaces followed by antibacterial wipes, particularly if you hot desk
2. Always wash your hands with soap and warm water after going to the toilet. It should take the same time as singing the song “Happy birthday to you” twice. Hand washing should be followed up by using hand sanitizer gel
3. Use anti-bacterial wipes to clean your office space, not a cloth, that way the germs are killed and the cloth is thrown away, no chance of the bacteria surviving and spreading around the office. It is also worthwhile keeping a container of anti bacterial hand gel on your desk to use throughout the day

The 30th Inc.500 Annual List, presenting America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies

The Inc.500 is an annual ranking of the 500 America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies, organized and published by Inc. magazine, a monthly publication magazine based in New York City which focused on growing companies issues.

The 2011 Inc.500 is the 30th publication of Inc.500 annual list. You may find the complete report from the September 2011 issue of Inc.magazine.

The Inc.500 list was conducted in accordance to the percentage of revenue growth of U.S based private companies over a four year period. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenues by the first week of the starting calendar year, and therefore able to show four full calendar years of sales. Additionally, they had to be U.S. based, privately held, and independent – no subsidiaries or divisions of other companies – as of December 31 of the last year measured. Revenue in the initial year must have been at least $200,000, and revenue in the most recent year must have been at least $2 million.

Beyonce Knowles just granted an honor from the U.S. NASA. Her golden voice was chosen to be a wake-up call for astronauts who are aboard the Atlantis space shuttle.

Following in the footsteps of several famous singer artists who previously alarmed the astronauts with their special songs, such as Paul McCartney (Good Day Sunshine), Elton John (Rocket Man) and also REM-Michael Stipe (Man on the Moon), she must be very proud of this special mission.

Not just her single “Run the World (Girls)” was played on last Saturday, the ninth day after the astronauts blasted off, she was also messaging the U.S. NASA crew, “Good morning, Atlantis. This is Beyonce. Sandy, Chris, Doug and Rex, you inspire all of us to dare to live our dreams, to know that we’re smart enough and strong enough to achieve them.”

“Run the World (Girls")” is specially dedicated to Sandy Magnus, the only female member of the Atlantis spaceship. “This song is especially for my girl Sandy and all the women who’ve taken us to space with them and the girls who are our future explorers.”

I just saw this video on YouTube. Quite impressive with the creativity and the idea of recycling an old jeans into a laptop bag. Cool enough I think. But it’s better to sew up the bottom part of the jeans recycled bag with sewing machine. This will keep the bottom of the bag stronger and to avoid the laptop from sliding down and crash.

Just several days ago, on May 3, 2011 Maxim Magazine unveiled its “2011 Hot 100 List” and crowned her as their chosen Hottest Woman in the World.
